Hip hop artist Tay Grin has been appointed London Summit and Awards ambassador 2020. He will represent Malawi and the Southern African Development Committee (Sadc) region.

London Political Summit global ambassador Dr Josephine Ojiambo said the award is in recognition of Tay Grin’s contribution to the causes of youth emancipation for social change for the enhancement of democratic leadership and the role music and culture in social transformation in Malawi.

In a separate interview, Tay Grin, who is also a politician, accepted the offer, saying he commits to continue championing the cause and space for the youth in politics, arts and business in Malawi and Africa.

Tay Grin: It is not only a great honour for me but for the entertainment industry

“I call upon artists in Malawi to work with the President’s advisory office on arts for the betterment of arts in Malawi. The president created the opportunity for us. Let us all embrace and make use of it regardless of political affiliation,” he said.

Tay Grin said having access to the London Political Summit and Awards is big because it will connect him to influential people from different industries across the globe.

“It is not only a great honour for me, but for the entertainment industry,” said the artist.

The appointment comes a year after the artist was awarded the Emerging Young Politician Award by the same institution.

The artist will go to London later this year to officially accept the position during the institution’s fifth anniversary.

London Political Summit and Awards is a platform geared to enhancing political enlightenment and democratic emancipation through intellectual discourse and public knowledge sharing from highly respected political leaders, academic, activists, students and civil society.
