Hip-hop artist Tay Grin, real name LimbaniKalilani, yesterday signed an K8 million deal to represent Astro Mobile as its brand ambassador.
Explaining the new partnership in Lilongwe, Astro Mobile general manager Michael Gova said they made Tay Grin their ambassador to tap the influence the artist has on the youth.
He said Astro defines itself as an Afrocentric mobile and electronic service provider and Tay Grin brand is very Afrocentric, hence the partnership.
Said Gova: “Tay Grin is an opinion leader and very inspirational to the youth, especially those in the age range of 28 to 35 which comprises a good part of Malawi population. We want to tap his influence. Tay’s passion for Malawian culture is unprecedented and can be heard in his musical and lyrical proficiency. Tay Grin would represent us as a successfully commercialised African brand which any progressive business entity cannot ignore.”
Astro Mobile specialises in mobile and electronic solutions through its branches in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania and South Africa.
An excited Tay Grin said the agreement is a result of their shared values in African culture and the motivation to better the lives of Africans by providing the platform for the citizens to communicate easily.
“I believe Astro Mobile mission is to give a voice to millions of Africans. Astro delivers eye-catching and affordable smartphones to its customers. Astro will surely fill the gap in Malawi for those who are looking for amazing phones but have limited budget,” said the musician who has just been nominated for the best male artiste Afrima awards.
