Looking trendier is part of the entertainment game. Oftentimes, those in the entertainment business go an extra mile to look trendy and keep up with fashion trends. In most cases the fashion sense of popular artists are imitated by their loyal fans.

It is not uncommon to see fans spotting a trendy hairdo or dressing of their favourite artist-because those in entertainment are regarded as trendsetters.

When Malawi’s celebrated hip-hop artist and self-proclaimed Nyau King, Tay Grin spotted a new hairdo last week, it set tongues wagging. Social media was abuzz with the news and pictures of the new hairdo.

His fans took to social media to appreciate and drool over Tay Grin’s hairdo. The hairdo however, attracted both positive and negative comments.

Tay Grin told On The Arts Tay that looking fashionable is in line with his career.

“I am an artist at the same time entertainer who is supposed to present himself in a lovely way to my fans,” he said.

He said his many travels have taught him a big lesson on how international artists look or present themselves in the showbiz circles.

Some music fans said they connect well with their favorite artists when they look trendier and attractive.

“Since I became a fan of Tay Grin, I started following not only his music but also fashion. But I was impressed to see him spotting a new look over the weekend,” said Maneno from Chitawira, adding fashion adds a yummy spice to their favorite artists.

However, others felt Tay Grin’s new hairstyle is a flop and doesn’t look good on him. Memes poking fun at him, compared Tay Grin’s hairstyle to a Ninja Turtle.

Female singer Hazel Mak, who used to spot a tinted short-hair, recently dazzled the showbiz with her ‘Shasha’ wig. She said it gives her options to style her hair in different stunning ways.

Musicians Union of Malawi (MUM) president the Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango said artists ought to present themselves in the a likable manner to their fans.

“Fans are attracted by different things in an artist, including hairstyles. Some fans fall in love with artists because of the way they look. So, musicians have greater chances of connecting well with their fans when they present themselves professionally and charming,” said Mhango.
