At least 14 companies have registered their teams ahead of the Blantyre Lions Club Charity Golf Tournament at the Mbawa Country Club next Sunday, but organisers say they want at least 30 teams to make the contest competitive.

According to Lion Tarang Makhecha, the need for more companies to participate aims at raising more funds for the plight of needy students who require education grants in government secondary schools.

He said as a charitable organisation that supports over 300 students in government secondary schools in some districts of the Southern Region, they need to mobilise enough funds through the tournament whose registration fee is K50 000 per team.

“If they do not want to take part in the actual tournament, the companies can just contribute towards the noble cause. We will appreciate any assistance,” said Makhecha, adding that such companies will be allowed to mount their banners at the venue of the contest for free.

Companies that have so far shown interest to take part in the day-long event are Candlex, Nico General Insurance, Nampak, Combine Cargo, FMB, National Bank of Malawi, Malswitch, Smile Life Insurance, La Farge Cement, Bollore Africa, Pharmanova, HTD, Mapeto DWSM and Churchill & Norris Law Firm.
