Teenager dies in road accident
A 15-year-old boy died on Wednesday after a car hit him at Kapyepye Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chimwala in Mangochi.
Mangochi Police Station spokesperson Rodrick Maida identified the deceased as Rajab Mwamadi.
He said on the fateful day, the Toyota Hilux pick-up registration BS 7422 driven by Geoffrey Nyabanga (38) was coming from Liwonde heading to Mangochi Boma.
“Upon arrival at Kapyepye Village, the vehicle hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road,” Maida said.
“As a result, the pedestrian sustained multiple head injuries, fractured both legs and died on the spot while the motor vehicle had its grill, bumper and bonnet damaged,” he added.
Post-mortem conducted at Mangochi District Hospital revealed that death was due to multiple head injuries, according to police.
Meanwhile, police in the district are advising drivers to avoid over-speeding.
Nyabanga comes from Mbemba Village, T/A Symon in Neno District.
