Living Word of God International Ministries has just clocked 10 years. The ministry recently organised special prayers in Ndirande, Blantyre, where believers spent time praying for violence-free Tripartite Elections. Our reporter JAMES CHIMPWEYA asked founder of the ministry Pastor James Genesis to give an account of what the ministry has achieved so far.

What is the background to the ministry?

The ministry started in 2003. At the time, we used to meet in my house. In 2004, we moved to my parent’s house after witnessing that the ministry was growing.

What motivated you to found the ministry?

Our vision is to preach the gospel of repentance and forgiveness of sins according to Luke 24:47, Acts 3:38-39 and 1 Samuel 7:12. We also want to reach out to the needy such as orphans, the elderly, widows and vulnerable children with basic necessities.

This is why in 2006 we ventured into a small-scale business so that proceeds from the business should be going to the needy. We opened an orphanage on March 4 2008. The orphanage is currently housing 50 orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs). We support OVCs with food, education and clothing.

In April last year, we launched an elderly, widows and disabled community feeding programme. We have 75 beneficiaries of the programme.

Where do you get funding for all these programmes?

We depend on support from our partners locally. People in Malawi have the mindset of always getting financial support outside the country. That shouldn’t be the case. We can support ourselves if we are determined to.

What can you cite as your achievements in the past 10 years?

We have built a hall where children access free education and meals. We also provide assistance to orphans in government schools such as school uniforms, fees and exercise.
