Tertiary Education Schools Sports Association of Malawi (Tessam) has started preparations for international sports festivals involving colleges from Zambia and Zimbabwe, the country is set to host in September.

This Saturday, Tessam has organised games at Mzuzu University where colleges and universities in the country will gather to compete in netball, volleyball and chess.

Tessam secretary general Mischeck Yagontha Munthali said registration is open to all colleges including technical.

However, he stressed that each institution will have to pay its own expenses as Tessam will not be responsible for logistics.

On April 13, teams will again converge on Chancellor College in Zomba for basketball (ladies) and athletics at Chilunga Stadium and also karate, while on the same day, the teams will converge on College of Medicine for lawn tennis

“The purpose for all these games is to select the best pool of athletes for Tessam, for all disciplines to prepare for Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi (ZIZAMA) games that are scheduled to be hosted by Malawi in September 2013, preparations of which are underway,” he said.

Games to be played during the tournament in April are football, netball, basketball, volleyball, chess and field and track.

“Football is played at zonal level that is why we did not include it on the calendar that has been released, but surely football is one of the main sporting events during the tournament,” said Munthali.
