Malawi is set to know if it has bagged it’s first ever Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs), as the fourth edition of the prestigious accolades take place this evening.

Movers and shakers in the continent’s fledgling film industry will converge at the Eko and Suites Hotel, Victoria Island in Lagos, Nigeria, for the biggest night in Africa.AMMVA

Malawi’s chances hang in actress, movie producer and director Joyce Chavula Mhango who was nominated for the best Southern Africa film category for her latest production, Lilongwe.

She faces competition in the name of Ayanda by South Africa’s Sara Blecher as well as Tell Me Sweet Something by Akin Omotoso from Nigeria.

If she wins, Malawi will become the third Southern Africa country from South Africa and Zambia to win an AMVCA.

In a brief interview last night on the sidelines of a nominees cocktail, Chavula-Mhango maintained that she is lookin for nothing but victory.

“I have so much trust in Malawians that they were viting as such, I am optimistic of victory. if we don’t, well, we still need to be proud of being nominated and hope for the better,” she said. AMVCA

The AMVCA is the biggest celebration of film and television talent across Africa with the first edition holding in 2013. This year, the show promises to be even bigger with top contenders from across Africa vying for honours in a number of voting and non-voting categories including the newly introduced best movie West Africa, best movie eastern Africa among the three new categories out of a total of 26.

Viewers should expect an evening of fun, excitement and stellar performances from Nigerian highlife and pop sensation, Flavour, and rave of the moment songstress Yemi Alade. South Africa’s Zonke as well as Bongo Flava singer Ali Kibaba will add their acts to the entertainment menu on the night.

Also performing at the AMVCAs are comedians Salvador and Thomas Gumede from Uganda and South Africa respectively.

Mzansi starlet Minnie Dlamini is set to join Nigerian radio and TV personality IK Osakioduwa, who is returning to host the awards for an impressive fourth time, in co-hosting the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.

The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards will be broadcast across the continent on DSTV and GOtv from 19: 00 starting with Red Carpet at 18: 00.
