Members of The Apostles’ Church on Friday celebrated the beginning of the New Year.

Leader of the church, Nathaniel Nazombe, said according to the scripture, the Biblical year begins with the first sighting of the moon.

Said Nazombe: “The beginning of the New Year keeps changing because it is determined upon by the sighting of the new moon.”

He said the New Year is one of the greatest days in their faith during which followers praise, worship and share with friends the bounties that the Creator has blessed them with.

But Nazombe was quick to emphasise that people should not mistake them for Muslims whose other big days are also determined upon the sighting of the new moon.

“Although there is that similarity with Muslims, we are Christians who only follow what the scripture teaches regarding the beginning of the New Year,” he said.n
