Nanzikambe Arts Café in Malawi’s commercial city, Blantyre will in June bring an adaptation of Disney’s The Lion King to Malawians. In an e-mail communication Nanzikambe’s Misheck Mzumara said a team of volunteers from the United Kingdom and Germany will put together a cast of actors, singers and dancers to bring the famed production to Malawi.

“The café will welcome [the month of ] June with other live performances scheduled for June 4,5,6 and 7 organised by Nanzikambe’s volunteers, Matilda Wood from the United Kingdom and Julian Doll of Germany. The performances will bring together singers, actors and dancers in a multi-cultural production titled The Lion King which features actors from Malawi, United Kingdom and Germany,” said Mzumara.

Mzumara also said the café will be busy with fun and excitement. He added that they have also slashed down gate fares to allow many people to watch the performances.

Mzumara said the performances will be starting at six o’clock every Fridays and Saturdays.

According to Mzumara the busy schedule starts this Friday with Chancellor College students performing the Long Live Vava, a play written and directed by Smith Likongwe. The students are also expected to perform the same play on Saturday.

On Sunday, Tigris and friends will thrill the audiences with an acoustic music night which will also feature Matilda Wood.

The journey will continue on the last day of this month with another performance dubbed a night of Afro acoustic music that will feature Dikamawoko Arts’ Taddja and Muhanya, Patrick Simakweli, Agorosso and Teresa Mirovicova from Czech Republic who has composed romantic songs in Chichewa.
