The Nkhotakota coordinator

Listen to this article

It was a Saturday which was very hot. So hot that Chief Kazingist wondered whether someone upstairs is angry. As he was contemplating about this, a phone flashed.

Chief Kazingist is not a fun of calling back flashes on numbers he has not saved. This is because the caller would either say it was a wrong number or she wanted to be his pen-pal.

What surprised him, however, was that the person from the other end kept on flashing. Tired, he decided to call.

“I am Jane from Nkhotakota. Are you angry with me?” She asked.

“Why should I be angry with you Jane? Actually, you are one of the coordinators that are considered for promotion,” replied Chief Kazingist.

“I was wondering. Would you please come here today? There is something which requires your urgent attention,” pleaded Jane.

“I do not have money,” Chief Kazingist replied.

“Please borrow and I will refund it,” she said.

The chief man of the skirt was surprised because she has never given him money. He thought something might have happened and went straight to his friend at Greenvalley to borrow the money.

By five o’clock in the afternoon, Chief Kazingist was at Wenela Bus Depot in Blantyre. He jumped into a bus which was about to leave for Mzuzu via lakeshore.

At 3 AM the following day, Chief Kazingist arrived at Dwangwa and immediately called Jane, who was staying a few metres away from the bus stage. She came and picked him.

“You should be very tired because the journey was not only long but sudden. Please sleep first,” she said.

Chief Kazingist was indeed tired. He slept until about 9 o’clock in the morning when Jane woke him up.

“I want you to escort me to the lake to buy fish for relish,” she said.

“I am more than willing to go because I want fish,” Chief Kazingist said.

They then left for the lake which was about half a kilometre away. After arriving, fishers fought for them to buy.

One fisher said his prices were low, the other said his fish was fresh while another reminded Jane that she had been a loyal customer and should not disappoint this time. But Jane opted to ignore all of them.

“Let us go to that place where there is better fish,” she told Chief Kazingist. Although he wondered why the Nkhotakota coordinator decided to go and buy from a person who was alone, he obliged. After reaching the place, something unexpected happened. The fisher grabbed Chief Kazingist and started pushing him into the lake.

“Hey, what is happening?” Asked Chief Kazingist.

“He is under instruction to throw you into the lake. You have become useless to me because you don’t take care of me anymore,” said Jane. n
