Ephesians 5:22 reads; “Wives submit to your husband’s as to the Lord.” Colossians 3:18 reads; “Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.”

The wife is asked by God to submit to her husband because of the authority given to man by God over his wife. 1 Corinthians 11:3 says; “Now I want you to realise that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.”

Ephesians 5:33 says; “However each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself and the wife must respect her husband.”

Marriage, being the institution designed by God, has God-given commands or laws governing it. It is, after all, His institution. Once a woman is married, she must abide by the laws governing the union she is in. One of these roles is submission to her husband.

A wife is told to submit to her husband because of her reverence for Christ. Her submission signals her acceptance of God’s institutional order in the family and the Church. God has made the husband the head of his wife just as Christ is the head of the Church.

Ephesians 5:23 states that; “For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the Head of the Church, His body, of which He is saviour. The wife is to follow the example set by the Church.” Ephesians 5:24 further states that; “Now as the Church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.”

The man who is married has been given authority over his wife, irrespective of his attainments and achievements in the society.
