The return of good ole Kung Fu movies

After VHS cassettes were jostled out of fashion, many thought they would never hear from classic China again; many thought it was the end of movies such as Thundering Mantis, Drunken Master or Ninja the Protector.

But we are far from losing touch with the legendary Kung Fu movies, at least with DStv’s new Black Belt television channel.

Launched in November 2012, Blackbelt TV is a 24-hour martial arts television network airing martial arts fights, series, classic martial arts movies, animé, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fights and MMA lifestyle oriented interviews from Hollywood.

Films will include Drunken Master Slippery Snake, Fists of Dragons, Shaolin Fox Conspiracy and Ninja the Protector and feature fight choreography from the great Chinese masters.

Guests on the channel (channel 129 on DStv) include director Brett Ratner, actors John Cusack and Jackie Chan, and warriors like Evander Holyfield, Dolph Lundgren, and Manny Pacquiao.

BlackBelt TV came along with other new channels which were launched in November. Earlier in October, DStv had added new movie channels.

“We are excited with these new additions. We believe they will add more value to our packages and give our customers more variety in entertainment.

“This is about creating the best experience for our customers,” Collins Khumalo, CEO of MultiChoice South Africa told dstv.com.
