National Theatre Association of Malawi (Ntam) president Manaseh Chisiza is not relenting in his quest to revive theatre in the Northern Region districts as he is set to embark on a regional comedy tour.

The tour will be launched at Karonga Museum Amphitheatre on November 14 with a performance by his Oneness Arts Theatre.

The show will feature Sam Mthetho as guest artist.

Later in the month, the performances will move to Chitipa and Mzuzu.

“It’s a day set aside for comedies. We want to fill Karonga with humour on this day,” said Chisiza in an interview.

“After the launch in Karonga, we will go to Chitipa, Mzuzu and other places when venues are confirmed. These are special comic shows where people will laugh their lungs out,” he said.

Chisiza said the shows are important in his life because they will reveal the comic side of life.

“We have seen stand up comedies that leave a lot to be desired. It’s high time Malawi got serious with comedy as is the case internationally,” said the theatre president, who is returning from his theatre studies in Europe.

The tour is coming after a series of stage theatre performances by Karonga-based groups such as Chikolopa Performing Arts, Nyangenyange Drama Group and Oneness Arts Theatre.

The performances are aimed at reviving stage theatre in the district. n
