The Anglican Diocese of Lake Malawi will next year turn its theoretical institution, the College for Christians Ministries (CCM) into a university.

The university is expected to operate full-throttle beginning January 2015 once the church gets an approval from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).

CCM, situated in area 47 along Mchinji road, has so far produced close to 300 students at different levels of theology.

Lake Malawi Diocesan Secretary Paul Banda said the church believes the university will contribute towards development in the country.

“We believe in serving the community by giving them the best,” he said.

Banda recalled that when the missionaries came to Africa to proclaim the good news, one of their three key missions was education; hence, the church’s efforts to contribute towards education.

He added: “After our application, the assessment team from government visited us on August 19 2014 and we got feedback a month later. We were encouraged to work on some areas before being registered as a university.”

College principal the Reverend Andrew Sumani said the university would start with four faculties namely; Theology, Business Management, Leadership and Management; Nursing and Education.
