Thindwa crawls into golden boot race

After scoring in two consecutive TNM Super League games, Epac FC hitman Ishmael Thindwa appears to send a strong message that he can defend his Golden Boot Award.

A niggling injury had Thindwa, who notched 18 goals last campaign, barely replicating the form that made him a revelation last season.

But having claimed his fourth goal in 10 games of six starts on Saturday, Epac general secretary Roy Mdechi believes the towering forward will hit peak form next round.

“He spent the better part of the games carrying an injury that is why he missed three of the 13 games we have played. In four of the 10 matches, he came in as a substitute. Now, we can see the glimpses of the form that made him an instant hit last season,” Mdechi said on Sunday.

Thindwa scored a stunning solo goal in the 2-0 beating of Blantyre United on Saturday to remind the fans that he cannot be ruled of the top-scorer chase whose current leader is Bvumbwe Research’s Vincent Chinthenga on 10 goals from 14 matches.

On Sunday, Bvumbwe coach Bob Mpinganjira attributed his side’s struggles to inexperience having been promoted from the Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League Premier Division in May.

For now, Chinthenga’s immediate challengers to the top-scorer crown are Red Lions’ Boniface Kaulesi on eight goals and Muhammad Sulumba (Blantyre United) and Divason Chilemba of Mighty Wanderers, on seven goals.
