Three of the nine Football Association of Malawi (FAM) affiliates have submitted their nominations ahead of the association’s December 12 polls slated for Salima.

Ironically, all the three have nominated incumbent president Walter Nyamilandu who is seeking a fourth term.

They have also chosen James Mwenda and Othaniel Hara for the positions of first and second vice-presidents respectively.

However, the three differ on the position of executive member. SRFA general secretary George Pagaja said their executive committee

nominated Daud Ntanthiko, his Central Region counterpart Bernard Chiwiruwiru Harawa yesterday said they had settled for Jabbar Alide whereas the North has nominated their general secretary Alfred Gunda.

According to the amended FAM constitution, the three regional affiliates will send six delegates each to the

elective general assembly, translating to 18 votes.

However, while confirming having received nominations from the three affiliates, FAM general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda who is also secretary of the electoral committee, kept a tight lid on the names, saying they will only be unveiled after the process is finalised.

The Super League of Malawi (Sulom), which has the highest number of delegates (eight), is yet to meet and agree on which candidates to nominate.

Sulom president Innocent Bottoman said: “We shall be meeting very soon, we are actually planning to take advantage of our constitutional

review meeting to agree on which names we should nominate.”

Beach Soccer Malawi (BSM) general secretary Dave Saddo yesterday said they were expected to choose candidates last evening.

“Our committee has taken a consultative approach whereby we have asked our executive committee members to submit names of their

choice to our secretariat and then from there, we will be able to come up with a list,” said Sado.

National Youth Football Committee (NYFC) chairperson Mabvuto Missi said his body will finalise the nominations by Wednesday.

“The consultative process is still ongoing, but we should finalise by either Tuesday or latest Wednesday,” he said.

National Football Referees Committee (NFRC) general secretary Chris Kalichelo yesterday said they are expected to meet today to choose their candidates.

“We want to do it in fair and transparent manner whereby all our 10 executive committee members should take part in the process.

“We do not want a situation whereby someone should bulldoze our system,” said Kalichelo.

National Football Coaches Committee (NFCC) general secretary Benjamin Kumwenda yesterday said they will submit their nominations next Friday.

“Some of our executive committee members have had a tight schedule, but we are hopeful of meeting within the week to choose our candidates,” he said.

National Women Football Committee (NWFC) is also expected to submit its nominations this week.
