Three men are in police custody in Neno for allegedly stealing equipment worth K10 million ($13 263) at Mpatamanga gorge where government is constructing a hydroelectric power station.
Neno police Publicist Raphael Kaliati said on Monday that the suspects, Fanuel Dafred, 41, Migeli Luke, 22, and John Chikoti also aged 22, were arrested on Monday night after a tipoff.
Kaliati said on 25th of this month, Luke and Chikoti together with some other friends stole two petrol water pumps, one genset, two big machine batteries and five big spanners from the power station and sold them to Dafred a businessman from Dedza.
Kaliati said Police have since recovered two water pumps and one battery from Dafred.
Police say investigations are in progress to recover the remaining property.
Kaliati said the suspects will soon be taken to court to answer charges of theft.
