Three teams threaten Mighty Wanderers’ first round TNM Super League leadership which could only last for weeks.

The Nomads completed their first round assignments  on 27 points after a trip to Mzuzu yielded a 3-1 beating of Mzuzu United and a 2-0 defeat by Moyale Barracks on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

But Wanderers could be forced down the ladder as second-placed Kamuzu Barracks, who have 26 points, could take their tally to 29 points should they win their last first round game.

With two games in hand and placed third on 24 points, deposed leaders Red Lions can also displace the Nomads and finish on 30 points.

Blue Eagles currently third, have one game to go and could finish on 27 points and displace Wanderers by a superior aggregate.

So far, only four out of 15 Super League teams have wound up their first round assignments due to national team and cup engagements.

Wanderers team manager Chiyembekezo Zidana thinks his team finished on a good note.

“It has taken as so long to finish the first round while on top. The last time for us to do this must have been in 2007 when we eventually won the title,” Zidana said on Sunday.

Blantyre United also wound up their games with a 1-1 draw against Mponela United at the Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday. Mponela finished 13th on nine points while Blantyre United are 11th on 12 points.

Civo United too finished the first round positioned eighth on 18 points after beating Evirom 3-1 on Saturday only to lose 3-0 to Epac on Sunday. Evirom are bottom on six points from 13 games.
