Thyolo Secondary School netball captain Praise Chasankha attributed their success to hardwork and the encouragement they get from school authorities as regards engagement in sporting activities.

“Our school encourages us to work hard both in class and sports,” she said.

The trophy kicked off in September 2018 and was divided into secondary school, primary school and active football and netball categories.

In active football, Chalkman FC emerged champions after beating DK Stars 5-3 on post-match penalties after a goalless draw while in netball, Sparks won 36-17 against DK Sisters. In primary school section, Namitete football team beat Chididi 2-1 whereas Nakambwe netball side triumphed 14-2 over Khave. Hungry Lions beat Khonjeni Stars 6-4 in bawo finals.

Phiri, who is a parliamentary candidate in Thyolo Central Constituency on Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ticket, said he bankrolled the event to promote sports in the area and give back to the community he grew up in.
