Thyolo District Big Bullets Supporters Committee has donated K5 000 to each of the People’s Team’s 20 players in a move that proves the team can survive through its fan base if well organised.

The committee’s secretary Blessings Mathiya, publicity secretary Christopher Chipeya, treasurer Kelvin Kandaya, vice-secretaryLevisonZalira and ordinary member James Chatha presented the cash to the players at the Kamuzu Stadium dressing room after the team’s 2-1 win over Azam Tigers.bullets_celeb

Mathiya said they contributed the money in appreciation of the team’s impressive start to the season which has seen them lead the TNM Super League race.

“With the financial status of the team, we just felt we should do this. This is just a start of good things to come,” Mathiya said, before making a symbolic presentation through winger Dalitso Sailesi. The player thanked the fans for their gesture.

Bullets vice-general secretary Kelvin Moyo said they would establish structures throughout the country and access resources from their fans.

“It shows that, instead of relying on gate collections, with a proper data base of supporters at district level we can make money,” Moyo said.

Another group of supporters from Zomba has also pooled resources, but claim to be struggling to meet the players so that they can hand over the cash as they do not trust anyone, according to their representative only know as Augustine.
