The Zambezi Evangelical Church (ZEC) in Thyolo has organised a mega fundraising initiative that will see Christians walk a distance of 43km to raise funds to buy a public address (PA) system and construct a prayer house at Bvumbwe Trading Centre.

The event is scheduled for next Sunday and members are expected to walk from Thyolo to the Independence Arch in Blantyre.

Thyolo ZEC resident pastor, Reverend Mark Kayenda, said in an interview on Wednesday that the congregation expects to raise K1.7 million.

Kayenda said Bvumbwe has had no proper prayer house while those in Thyolo do

not have a PA system for use during crusades.

“On our own, we can’t raise these funds and that’s why we’re turning to the public for support,” he said.

Kayenda added that the church has also written people of goodwill, asking them to donate in cash or kind.
