Tigresses, Diamonds draw

Listen to this article

An interesting chapter on the simmering rivalry between Complex Tigresses and Diamonds was written at College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex in Blantyre on Sunday when the two giants settled for a draw for the first time.

However, the issue about the 29-29 stalemate in this OG Issa Southern Region Netball League (SRNL) was overshadowed by the two sides’ sizzling physical approach to the encounter, which was full of retaliatory fouls.

The first three quarters, which ended 11-5, 18-12 and 25-20 in favour of Tigresses, seemed to be the most interesting part of the action; a tentative play saw turnovers take to the fore as both sides struggled to dominate possession only that Tigresses rarely missed the target through their shooter Sindi Simutowe.

Nevertheless, Diamonds got off the hook in the dying minutes of the game when they upped their game with a more physical approach. All of a sudden, a combination of wing attacker Sheila Dimba, attacker Sarudzai Gondwe and rejuvenated shooter Jessica Mazengera-Sanudi made things difficult for Tigresses’ defenders Grace Mhango and Laureen Ngwira.

In other games, Zomba Airwing Sisters beat Gold Sisters 47-36 while Alliance Capital thrashed Shizaella Sisters 36-30. Prison Sisters trampled upon Gold Sisters 37-30.
