Time to prioritise the gospel—Church leaders

Listen to this article

Churches in Malawi have been challenged to prioritise spreading the gospel and mobilise resources to reach out to people who do not know Jesus Christ as their saviour.

This was said on Wednesday by regional coordinator for the Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM) James Kalikwembe during a five-day Serving in Mission (SIM) conference held in Blantyre.

“The aim of the conference was to impart the missionary spirit in church leaders in the country. As a country, we have to meet the great commission,” said Kalikwembe.

At the end of the conference, church leaders signed a communiqué committing themselves to the work of disseminating the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ.

One of the 750 delegates, Pastor Towera Masiku, described the conference as an eye opener, saying the church in Malawi has the money, but needs to set its priorities right.

“The Malawi church is busy prioritising women ministries, projects and other activities, leaving more people to die without knowing Jesus as their saviour.

“Churches and ministries have neglected the greatest commission of reaching out to people, but now with the conference, we will be focused and see the need to prioritise missionary work,” said Masiku.

She also said it is high time the church in Malawi began supporting itself and stop depending on donors.
