Black Missionaries front man Anjiru Fumulani was on Friday forced to repeatedly play Tizingocheza, a promotional track from the nascent Kuimba 10 album, for about seven times at Riverside Club in Salima.

It was a clear defiance to the lukewarm reception of the song, which was released in mid May alongside other three other promotional tracks Sindingakwanitse, Mwamkanaand Sikwathu.

The Salima concert started at 10:17pm and drifted into the next day to break at 3:34am, but apparently to the chagrin of dissatisfied fans who yearned for more. It was too late.

But it was Tizingocheza which emerged the song of the night as Ma Blacks enthusiasts chanted in unison “muimbenso, muimbenso” and Anjiru succumbed to pressure to play the song over and over again.

Later in an interview, Anjiru said the band was pleased to note with delight that the promotional songs have turned into household songs.

Kuimba 10 compilation, I tell you, will be one of the best ever. We are happy as a band that our fans are positively responding to the new songs now,” said Anjiru.

The songs have been subjected to intense criticisms since they were released, with others accusing the band of being monotonous while others accused the reggae outfit of failing to maintain the glory and standards left by the late Evison Matafale, who founded the band in 2002.

Ma Blacks have used services of renowned drummer Amos Mlolowa through his Active A Studio in Ndirande, Blantyre to record almost all the songs in Kuimba 10.

Mlolowah is also a member of Mafilika Band and Mizu and using his reservoir of experience as a drummer, he has on several occasions performed with Malawian Jazz musician WambaliMkandawire both within and outside the country.
