TNM, sponsors of the Super League, have spoken out on the delay to roll out the Sapota Mapeto promotion, saying this was due to some technical changes that were being implemented.

During the launch of the 2015 season, TNM said the promotion would run simultaneously with the league, but seven weeks into the season, promotion is yet to start.

However, responding to a questionnaire yesterday, TNM public relations and sponsorship manager LimbaniNsapato said: “Take note that the delay was a result of some changes that were being undertaken on the platform for playing trivia [option for subscribers to answer soccer-related questions] to make it more fun and exciting.”

And in a press statement issued yesterday, TNM chief commercial officer Daniel Makata said the initiative has since been relaunched.

“This is the best time to connect and support your favourite clubs. Through our network platform, we are helping clubs raise funds for their operations through an SMS campaign and in this season TNM has brought new innovative ideas to make the promotion more exciting to the football fans,” Makata said.

He expressed optimism that the money to be generated from the promotion will go a long way not only for the general operations of the teams but also towards the welfare of individual players.

He called on all football loving Malawians to endorse the promotion and support their respective teams to generate resources while winning different prizes in the promotion.

“Our players, our heroes, our pride can only be taken care of and enjoy the game if we all join hands and be part of this exciting promotion,” he added.

To assist the teams, fans will be asked to SMS a team code to 1515 and get a chance to win monthly prizes of K200 000 cash, Flames replica jerseys, handsets and airtime. The first team to hit 300 000 SMSs will get K1.5 million and two fans with highest SMSs will get 40 inch Samsung TVs
