One of the winners of the TNM Ufulu at 50 promotion Edward Chimpeni, has donated his K2 million ($3 344) prize money to Ndirande LEA Primary School in Blantyre for procurement of 61 desks.

Each of the 50 winners in the promotion was required to choose a social responsibility project worth K2 million translating to K100 million ($167 224).

Speaking during the handover of the desks, Chimpeni, a former student of the school, said he was delighted to assist the community through TNM’s promotion.

“I am very happy that through the promotion I have been able to make a difference to my community by donating desks. The school has had problems of desks which impacted negatively on education delivery,” said Chimpeni.

He said that good learning environment is very crucial for one to excel. It is my hope that these desks will provide such an environment for students at Ndirande to learn in comfort,” he said.

TNM’s Public Relations and Sponsorship Manager, Limbani Nsapato said TNM believes that education is the backbone of the country’s socio-economic development but for students to excel in their studies, they needed good learning environment, materials and infrastructure.

He said the company was satisfied with the projects that have been handed over so far as they have spread across all social fabrics.

“The handover of the desks demonstrates our company’s commitment in fulfilling its promise to customers in Ndirande and the rest of the country.   Through this promotion, we have touched almost every social fabric of the country,” said Nsapato.

With 4000 learners, Ndirande LEA Primary school had only 200 desks.
