Mobile phone service provider TNM has unveiled K3 million sponsorship for four ladies golf tournaments to be played at the Blantyre Sports Club (BSC).

The sponsorship comes after BSC Ladies Golf Section asked the company for support following lack of tournaments for ladies.

Unveiling the funding at a press conference in Blantyre on Thursday, TNM chief commercial officer Daniel Makata hoped that the sponsorship will promote golf especially among ladies.

“TNM as a Malawian company is always committed to support development of various sports disciplines. We believe that with such sponsorship like the one we are unveiling today will contribute significantly to the development of sports among ladies,” he said.

Meanwhile, BSC Ladies Golf Section captain Connie Muguvu-Karuku was optimistic that the sponsorship will increase the number of female golfers.

“There are very few ladies who play golf. Our dream is to have more golfers. We believe that having tournaments will help increase membership, “ she said.

She further said that the sponsorship will be extended to junior girl golfers who are preparing for this year’s international tournaments.

“Malawi will host a junior golf international tournament in December. We will use the TNM competitions to develop golfers who will compete at this tournament,” Muguvu-Karuku said.

According to her, all the four tournaments will be played this year every three months.
