Tough being at the top — Bullets
Big Bullets assistant coach Mavuto Lungu says they have to manage the pressure of being at the top of the 2014 TNM Super League after going three points clear of now second-placed Moyale Barracks at the weekend.
Lungu issued the warning on Saturday that the last thing Bullets can do is to get complacent in the remaining six games, starting with Blue Eagles and Kamuzu Barracks this Saturday and Sunday in Dedza.
“We have to do the job on our own and not depend on others. It might be easy going to the top, but maintaining the top spot brings a lot of pressure,” explained Lungu whose team boasts best defensive record of 16 league goals conceded.
Bullets lead the standings on 47 points from 22 games, replacing Moyale Barracks whose second-round poor form continued with a 2-1 loss to Civo United on Sunday to remain on 44 points in 23 games.
Blue Eagles too remained third on 40 points from 21 games after losing 2-0 to in-form sixth-placed Azam Tigers (32 points). The title race is among the three teams. Blantyre United anchor the table on 14 points from 22 games.
“We have to forget out this weekend results and focus on Blue Eagles. These will be tough games for us. If we can come back with maximum points, then we will be safe,” added Lungu.
Consulting coach Nsazurwimo Ramadhan shared Lungu’s sentiments separately, noting that the going is getting tougher for the Bullets, hence need to keep their feet on the ground.
“We are facing relegation-threatened teams. To be honest, we have a very long way to grab the title so I am not celebrating yet,” said the South Africa-based Burundian, who is spending his month-long holiday coaching his former club.
It has been a decade since Bullets last won the championship having last won it during the 2004/05 season which was their seventh on the trot.
From that golden generation, only Zakazaka, Fischer and James Chilapondwa are still playing.
