Tour de Dwangwa will take place Sunday at Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota.

The competition will be used to raise funds for Dwangwa Round Table 69, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) which supports communities around the area.

Round Table 69 chairperson Peter Piringu said all is set for the event.

Set to defend their titles: Mapepa and
his wife Kadewere

“Tour de Dwangwa offers a very competitive business to our sponsors because they advertise. We invite the community together and we give chance to service providers to interact with the people. We accept any offer on the table, such that individuals and companies are allowed to offer what they are comfortable with,” he said.

In the 2016 race, a couple, Steven Mapepa and his wife Mervis Kadewere from Zomba Cycling Club, dominated the affair in the professional categories.

Mapepa scooped first position in the men professional mountain bike category while his wife outclassed other seven cyclists to emerge the champion in the ladies professional mountain bike race.

The couple has since promised to retain their titles in this year’s competition.

But Mzuzu Cycling Club has also promised to produce a champion this year.

The club’s chairperson Portipher Munthali said they are leaving no stone unturned to achieve their goal. n
