Toyota Malawi donates K2.5m to Paralympic

Toyota Malawi on Monday donated K2.5 million to Malawi Paralympic Committee (MPC) to boost its programmes in the country.

Making the donation, Toyota Malawi general manager corporate affairs Andrew Katimba said Toyota Motor Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding to partner World Paralympic as their ambassadors.

“In Malawi, we have partnered with MPC to be our ambassadors; hence, the K2.5 million for the improvement of Sitting Volleyball which was launched last week.

“It is our hope that the money will be used for the intended purposes and that many persons with disabilities, especially, the youth will benefit from this gesture,” he said.

MPC president James Chiutsi said they are humbled to partner Toyota Malawi as they promote the Sitting Volleyball in the country.

“We are excited with the donation because this will give us a chance to scout more players and to manage the sport countrywide.

“Our main challenge was stigma because many youths with disabilities were not coming out to patronise some sporting activities let alone athletics.

“This donation will give a chance to more youth with disabilities to take part in various sporting activities since the scouting will be done countrywide,” he said.

Chiutsi said MPC will send athletes to Botswana to participate in events involving persons with disabilities. n
