If I were

Traditional Authority Chapananga

I would realise that my decision to demote senior group village head (SGVH) Singano for allegedely mobilising fellow traditional leaders to attend a Malawi Congress Party (MCP) political rally addressed by its president Lazarus Chakwera, was sheer abuse of power on my part.

If I were T/A Chapananga of Chikwawa District, I would realise that there was nothing wrong with Singano mobilising village heads under his jurisdiction to attend the political rally because attendance does not necessarily mean that he supports that party.

How I wish I were T/A Chapananga, because I would realise that it is traditional leaders like myself who are misleading people in the villages by insinuating that traditional leaders are only supposed to tow the ruling party’s line.

If only I were T/A Chapananga, I would realise that what I am doing is to intimidate my subjects so that they support my political ideologies, which is not healthy in a democracy.

If I were chief Chapananga, I would realise that I am acting like a dictator whereby my subjects should dance to my tune to suit my personal interests. Oh yes, that is if I were T/A Capananga, but alas! I am not the ‘mfumu yandodo’!
