Mbwana: They were eager to learn

Darts trainer John Mbwana has described his day-long youth clinic held at the Air Wing, Zomba on Saturday as a success.

Mbwana, who is also a qualified table tennis coach, pooled 10 up-and-coming darts players from the hosts Cobbe Barracks and the Malawi Institute of Education.

The clinic covered topics such as darting out, darts bounce outs, choosing the right set of darts, darting, dart stance, grip basics, throwing basics, finding hot numbers, among many others.

Officials such as Peter Kapatamoyo, Mphatso and Max Nyirenda assisted Mbwana technically and logistically during the clinic.

“The officials and the athletes were eager to learn the basic skills of the game. It is my wish to drill the youth throughout the country with internationally recommended and approved basic skills in the game of darts,” Mbwana said on Monday.

Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) tournament director Charles Katola said Mbwana conducted the clinic with the association’s blessings.

Mbwana has since submitted a report for the self-sponsored clinic and hopes to extend similar exercises to the rest of the regions.

Malawi won the Zone VI darts championship in 2001 as hosts.
