Trespassing into railway line costs one’s life

An unknown person has died after being hit by a train trolley in Mchinji District.

Mchinji Police Station deputy public relations officer Sub Inspector Rome Chauluka said the Central East Railways (Cear) train driver Emmanuel Bonongwe (33), on January 28 upon reaching Beyata Village in Traditional Authority Zulu saw a man lying between the railway lines.

Chauluka further said the driver blew the horn but the man did not move away and the engine instantly hit him to death.

Post-mortem report has established cause of death as due to severe head injury.

This is the second time the district has witnessed such an incident.

Last year a Standard 3 pupil at Kamuzu Primary School was severe injured by a moving train.

Meanwhile, police in the district are appealing to the communities to avoid playing along the railway line and to be careful when crossing it. n
