A truck driver died in a road accident in Nkhotakota after the vehicle he was driving overturned after failing to negotiate a corner on Sunday.
The driver’s assistant sustained serious injuries in the accident, according to police.
Nkhotakota Police Station traffic officer Ralph Chabwera said the accident occurred soon after midnight of Sunday at Chimkwenda Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Malengachanzi area.

Said Chabwera: “We were notified about the accident after midnight on Sunday and immediately rushed to the scene where we managed to save Chance Julio [the assistant] and rushed him to Nkhotakota District Hospital.
“The driver was trapped [in the wreckage] and died three hours later.”
Management of Blantyre-based Khalsons Transport Company, owners of the vehicle, described Nachamba as an energetic and hard working man.
Said an official from the company: “I can replace the truck, but for the life of the driver I cannot. I will always remember this driver and his contribution to the company.”
