United States (US) Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris say Republican President Donald Trump is an incompetent leader who has left the US “in tatters” in his first four-year term of office.
The pair spoke during their first campaign event held jointly on Wednesday in Wilmington, Delaware a day after Biden unveiled Harris as his running mate for the November 3 presidential election.
Biden said: “The choice we make this November is going to decide the future of America for a very, very long time. Donald Trump has already started his attacks [and] it’s not a surprise because whining is what [he] does best, better than any president in American history,” he added.
On her part, Harris—born from immigrants from India and Jamaica—said America is crying out for leadership, yet “we have a president who cares more about himself than the people who elected him”.
But Trump, the Republican candidate in the election, hit back, saying Harris had “dropped like a rock” in her own presidential bid.
This was in reference to her suspended presidential bid before she endorsed Biden in March. “There was nobody more insulting to Biden than she was. She said horrible things about him,” the US leader told a media briefing at the White House on Wednesday.
