Trustees fault BB exco on new account

Big Bullets FC board of trustees has faulted the executive committee for opening a new account when there was already an existing account for the club at MSB.

Meanwhile, the team’s executive committee is scheduled to have an emergency meeting tomorrow in Blantyre following the fallout that has arisen among the team’s leadership over the handling of President Joyce Banda’s K25 million donation.

Trustees chairperson James Busile clarified that the account which has an overdraft, as claimed by the executive, is the one that is operated by the trustees.

“Had the executive sought our advice before opening another account at Nedbank, we would have advised them accordingly, which is supposed to be the case,” said Busile.

He said the trustees have since intervened on the fallout and Busile is expected to meet the treasurer Noel Lipipa, and the rest of the executive separately to come to the bottom of the issue.

In a telephone interview from South Africa yesterday, Msungama accused Lipipa of having a personal grudge with him.

“I have called for a meeting on Wednesday to get to the bottom of the issue. But what I can say for now is that I stand by the decision that was taken by the rest of the executive, excluding Lipipa, to open another bank account because the one at MSB had unresolved issues,” said Msungama.

“I and the rest of the committee are ready to account for the money. Priority should be players’ welfare and the team’s operations. Now could we have put everything on hold just to wait for the treasurer’s return? Players need to be paid their signing on fees, upkeep, transport and game allowances. Should all this have waited until his return?”

In turn, Lipipa said it was Msungama who is being personal.

“It is not about being personal, it is about who does what based on the responsibilities we have. It is that simple and clear. Even if you ask a Standard Six pupil, he or she will be able to give you the right answer,” said Lipipa. n
