Parliament will this week decide whether Malawi Television Limited should stand as an independent body.
The decision was expected last Friday, but Leader of the House Henry Phoya asked Parliament to defer the item to this week.
If Parliament nods to the decision, Television Malawi will be dissolved and incorporated into Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).
Documents sourced from Parliament show that if the idea is passed, MBC will adopt all TVM employees and effectively apply its terms and conditions of service on them.
“Any person who immediately before the commencement of this Act, is employed by Malawi Television Limited, shall be deemed to have been transferred to the employment of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation on terms and conditions of service not less favourable than terms and conditions of service with Malawi Television Limited,†reads the proposed bill.
It states that all TVM property, assets, funds, liabilities, obligations, agreements and other arrangements will be transferred to MBC.
