Two convicted for killing person with albinism

High Court judge, Justice Dorothy DeGabriele has convicted two people for the gruesome murder of Yasin Phiri, a person with albinism. 


Phiri was killed in 2019 at his home in Kande in Nkhatabay in the presence of his son. The case attracted public anger and frustration.

Details from the court show that the case had seven suspects who were charged with murder and genocide. All the seven were acquitted of genocide and three others were also acquitted of murder. 


Out of the remaining four, two were found guilty and convicted on Wednesday March 24 2021, according to the director of legal aid, Masauko Chamkakala who was representing six suspects in the case. 
The convicts are Frank Mkweni Thonje and Bonzo Chirwa.
