Two killed in road accident in Dedza

Two people, a cyclist and pedestrian were on Wednesday killed in an accident in Dedza after being hit by a vehicle.

Confirming the accident, Dedza police deputy spokesperson Cassim Manda identified the deceased as cyclist Arnold Wanda 22 and Mulire Kachala 44.

Manda said the accident occurred at around 1pm at Kalinyeke area along Dedza/Lilongwe M1 road when the vehicle registration number CZ5060 Toyota Opa saloon driven by Onesimo Mkandanji coming from Lilongwe and going towards Ntcheu direction hit the two who were heading towards the same direction.

He said all the four passengers on board escaped with minor injuries.

“After hitting the two, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it went further to hit and demolish a nearby kitchen and stopped after it hit a house,” said Manda.

According to Manda, the vehicle and the bicycle have been extensively damaged
