Kaitano said people who reported to police alleged that foreigners were accessing the photocopied forms at a higher price.

“Officers from Mchinji Police Station instituted investigations to trace the source and finally arrested Nyirenda who owns a shop at Mikundi Trading Centre,” he said.

Kaitano said it was later discovered that the suspect had already sold the forms to unsuspecting people that were registering at Kalombo Registration Centre.

Currently, police have recovered some of the counterfeit forms which will be used as exhibits in court.

Nyirenda’s accomplice, Lukiyasi Masanjula, 36, who hails from Msampha Village, Traditional Authority Mavwere in Mchinji was arrested at Namizana along the border of Malawi and Mozambique. Police confiscated forged forms from him during the operation.

The two will appear before court to answer forgery charges. n
