Two new teams in Royale Chemicals Championships

Elite Royale Chemicals National Darts Championship has over the years been a preserve of familiar and predictable top-tier seven teams.

But that is set to change in this year’s edition scheduled for November 17 and 18 at the Natural Resources College in Lilongwe.

This follows the qualification to the final of unusual guests Mzadd Arrows and Hazards from Mzuzu and Districts Darts League (MDDL) and Lilongwe and Districts Darts League (LDDL) respectively.

The new teams have joined five other usual campaigners Blantyre Sports Club (A) and Elvis Freight from Blantyre and Districts Darts League (BDDL), Kaning’ina from MDDL, Capital Glass and Joe’s Motel from the LDDL.

Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) general secretary Joe Zangazanga welcomed Mzadd and Hazards to the championship, after missing a number of national tournaments in the recent past.

Winners of the tournament will take home K80 000 (about $266), runners-up K50 000 (about $166) and K30 000 (about $100) for third position team. Player of the tournament will receive K15 000 (about $50).

Elvis Freight are the defending champions. Royale Chemicals Championship is sponsored by Royale Chemicals Enterprises Limited.

In a related development, DAM has congratulated Malawi National Council of Sports executive secretary George Jana for being elected as vice-president of the Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (SCSA) Zone VI at a meeting held in Lesotho on November 6 2012.

Zangazanga observed that Malawi sports associations stand to benefit through Jana’s position.
