The darts fraternity has been hit by the death of two prominent players, Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) has said.

In a statement, DAM general secretary Joe Zangazanga said they were mourning the death of Matthews Munkhondia and Barbara Chirwa on December 30 2012 and January 3 2013 respectively.

“Matthews was found dead at a house he had rented in Rumphi where he had picked up a temporary job. He was a veteran and former national team player and was playing for Mzuzu Golf Club darts team,” Zangazanga said.

Burial of Munkhondia’s body took place on December 31 2012 at his home in Chitipa. The statement added that Chirwa died at her home at Kanjedza Township in Blantyre after a long illness.

The late Chirwa played for Blantyre and District Darts League’s Mobile Wanderers before joining Jalet Flights. She came from Neno District.

DAM sent condolences to the bereaved families and the two leagues MDDL and BDDL on the sad loss of the two players.
