Two top officials of Young Africans (Yanga) FC face arrest for failing to comply with a court order to pay former Big Bullets defender Wisdom Ndlovu and ex-Civo United trialist Steven Malashi 100 million shilling.
Registrar of the Labour Court, Mohammed Gwae, made the order on February 5 2013.
Yanga have since filed an application for revision before the High Court of Appeal to prevent the arrest of their chairperson Yusuf Manji and secretary general Lawrence Mwalusako, Tanzania’s Daily News recent edition reported.
Malashi, who was born of a Malawian mother and a Tanzanian father, confirmed the news.
Yanga had filed an application for revision and application for stay of the award on October 11 2011.
The two players went to the court against Yanga for breach of contract, demanding signing-on fees, salaries for two seasons and damages for loss of opportunities and frustrations.
Yanga recruited the players on a two-year agreement on March 18 2010. But on July 16 2010 coach Kosta Papic allegedly informed them about their sacking.
It is alleged that in the terms of the agreement, Yanga were duty-bound to communicate to them about the termination of their contracts seven days before the date set by Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) for clubs to submit their players’s lists.
The players claimed that they went to the court as the last resort as efforts to resolve the matter with Yanga leadership and TFF proved futile.
After hearing their case, the court ordered Yanga to pay Ndlovu salaries for two seasons, transport allowance back to Malawi and damages for loss of opportunities and frustrations.
