United Democratic Front 2014 presidential candidate Atupele Muluzi says his party will dislodge the People’s Party (PP) administration and change the manner government is run.
Atupele, on a whistle-stop tour from Dedza’s Golomoti, Monkey Bay to Mangochi Boma, said Malawi would clock 50 years of independence next year, which is an election year, but many people are poor.
At Mtakataka Turnoff, unscheduled stop-over Atupele said the Malawi economy is in a mess because of poor leadership.
Thus, he urged his followers to usher in the UDF administration during next year’s polls to change things.
Atupele said: “Most countries surrounding us are developing and progressing economically. They have access to good health and education, but Malawi continues to be poor and poorer.
“Most of us cannot afford a bag of maize now at K11 000 (about $28). There are no drugs in hospitals. Is this what we want?”
He said only a few politicians are getting rich and not sharing the burden most Malawians are facing in the name of austerity measures by government.
The Machinga North legislator said prices of essential commodities and services continue to rise and Malawians are being hurt while government is not concerned.
He assured that once voted into power, his administration will look into various sectors such as health, agriculture and education to correct things.
Probably for the first time in the history of Malawi political rallies, Atupele used sign language for the deaf.
