Comedian and actor Nkem Owoh better known as Ukwa will not be in the country in October as earlier announced, organisers have said.

Ukwa was expected to be in Malawi for a series of performances organised by Solomonic Peacock and Zambian based artist Derick Kondowe to spice up this year’s Mother’s Day celebrations. Solomonic Peacock executive director Macarthur Matukuta told The Nation on Wednesday morning that the versatile artist will instead come in December.

“Ukwa has popularity in Malawi and many people want to see him. We are doing everything possible to ensure he comes. However, we have shifted his trip to December because we have observed that October will be a busy month in entertainment in the country.

“We do not want to put patrons in dilemma on where to be. We need a time when all the focus can be on him so that those wanting and able to patronise his shows can do that without dilemmas due to many activities in the cities,” he said.

Malawi will host Sunbird Sand Festival, Blantyre Arts Festival (BAF), Malawi Culture and Arts Festival (Macfest) and other summer shows during October.

Matukuta revealed that all documents for the artist’s visit to Malawi are ready. He also said they have already communicated with Ukwa and he has agreed to come in December and perform in Blantyre and Lilongwe.

“He has accepted to come in December and we are just waiting to hear from his office on the specific day he will come,” he said, adding that December is better as it concedes with the festive season when families are ready spend their annual savings for fun.

Ukwa’s visit to Malawi will add his name to the list of other great Nollywood actors such as Patience Ozwokor (Mama G), Rita Dominic, Desmond Elliot and Van Vicker who visited the country.

Ukwa comes from Udi, Enugu State in Nigeria. He is an electrical engineer and is rated one of the most talented artists in Nigeria.

He is largely known for his character in the hilarious comic movie of the same name in Nollywood.

Apart from acting and comedies, Ukwa is also a singer and one of his best songs is I go Chop Your Dollar.
