Uladi’s foundation distributes Qurans

As one way of helping Muslims in the country to understand Islamic teachings better, a Salima based UB Foundation has distributed 500 Qurans to various mosques in the district.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, UB Foundation director Uladi Mussa said the donation followed realisation that many Muslims in Malawi do not read the Holy book, which he described as a source of inspiration.

Mussa, a former minister, added that Qurans, unlike Bibles, are hardly found in Malawi.

“Copies of Quran are hardly found in Malawi and many Muslims do not read them. It’s because of this that UB Foundation sought help from its international partners to achieve its goal of spreading the message of God,” he said.

Mussa promised Muslims across Malawi that UB Foundation will ensure that they have their basic religious needs.

In his remarks, deputy national chairperson for Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM), Sheikh Shaibu Ibrahim, hailed the foundation for the gesture.

“Let me also warn you [the foundation] to give everything you receive in the name of Muslims to those who deserve it. It is only through honesty that Allah will take you to greater heights,” said Ibrahim.

UB Foundation sourced the Qurans with funds from International Muslim World League.

UB Foundation, founded last year, is involved in charitable works such as provision of school bursaries to needy students and is named after Mussa’s father, Uladi Basikolo.
