Umodzi Foundation, a local humanitarian organisation, on Saturday donated relief items valued at K1 million (about $2 777) to flood victims in Traditional Authority Ndindi’s area in Salima.

The items were sourced from members of the foundation.

According to Professor John Chisi, one of the board members of the foundation, the donation was among the various programmes that they have lined up this year.

“This is a 100 percent Malawian-owned organisation with a focus of alleviating the plight of the needy in areas of education, health, human rights, good governance and democracy. We get funding locally for us to help those afflicted,” he said.

He said they would soon hold various meetings with rural communities to understand their plight before helping them out.

“We want to give back to society the little that we have with generosity,” Chisi said

Local communities including Group Village Head Kandulu hailed the gesture demonstrated by the foundation. The floods affected the area in January and currently victims are staying at Chikolowa Primary School.
