UMP awards tomorrow

All roads lead to Lilongwe tomorrow for this year’s Urban Music Party (UMP) awards which are set to take place in the evening at Bingu International Convention Centre (Bicc).

“We are happy with the overwhelming response we have received during the voting process. The response signifies how the UMP Awards have grown, and how people have welcomed them,” said UMP publicist Thoko Kadewere.

She said names of winners will be announced during the awards gala which will be followed by an after-party at up-market luxury club, The Cockpit Lounge at Golden Peacock Hotel complex in Lilongwe. The party will feature live performances by Fredokiss, Blasto and DJ Nathan Tunes and Skappa Dj.

Kadewere added: “South Africa’s rapper Emtee will headline this year’s awards gala; and patrons to the after-party will have a chance to meet and mingle with him and award winners and nominees.”

UMP Awards will for the first time be held as a stand-alone event from the UMP Festival which will be held Sunday at Blantyre Sports Club.

The UMP Awards recognises Malawi’s exceptional urban music talent. while UMP Festival celebrates urban music, lifestyle and culture. This year, UMP awards and festival has partnered Casino Marina and Umodzi Park. n
