The Urban Music Party (UMP) festival has been postponed to the 27th.

According to organisers of the event venue for the main festival has further been shifted to Blantyre Cultural Centre formerly French Cultural Centre, from Lucky Luciano’s.

Initially, the main festival was expected to take place at Royal Palm Hotel but organisers were forced to shift to Lucky Luciano’s grounds because of renovations currently taking place at the hotel.

“The change in dates has been necessitated by a combination of factors mainly that we have been forced to change again the venue and the coming in of new sponsors. A week before the main event and after already signing a formal contract.

“Lucky Lucianos management have informed us of the complaints residents around the premise raised through authorities of possible noise during the event,” says Nde’feyo’s public relations officer Maurice Nkawihe in a statement.

He says the organisers “have therefore settled for the BCC, an established venue for the arts industry in Malawi befitting the stature of the festival”.

Meanwhile, voting for UMP headliners has been extended.

“The shifting of the event to this month-end has given us opportunity to add more excitement to the event such as extension of SMS voting for UMP headliners and introduction of weekly draws with winners to walk away with various fabulous prizes. People can vote for their favourite nominated artist or DJ by sending SMS to 58181,” he explained.
